About Tempting Kunefa - 2 Pieces in a Box

Kunefa is a pastry made from cheese baked between two layers of shredded phyllo and soaked in a sweet syrup.

Kunefa is best served hot while the cheese still has a melted consistency. We are using traditionally Hatay cheese for the filling of Lezzettars’ Kunefa. Kunefa is a crispy, cheese-filled dessert made with kataifi. It's served hot out of the oven so the cheese is soft and stringy. Kunefa is native to the southeastern parts of Turkey that border the Mediterranean Sea. It is a great example of regional Turkish cuisine. The recipe for Kunefa is believed to originate from the city of Hatay although many cities in this region lay claim to inventing Kunefa Important southeastern cities of the Turkey like Mersin, Adana, Gaziantep, Kilis, Sanlıurfa, Diyarbakir and Mardin all have their own variations of the dessert.

The taste of the savory Kunefa is that both sides are cooked in equal and balanced manner and meet with the syrup in the exact order.

Although this stage seems simple, it is a unique skill to catch the proper consistency. Finally, with the addition of Antep's grated pistachio nuts, Lezzettars’ Kunefa becomes ready to serve. Enjoy!

Shredded phyllo dough (Wheat flour, water), unsalted cheese (pasteurized milk, cheese culture, stabilizer(calcium chloride), microbial rennet),pistachio, butter, hydrogenated vegetable oil (vegetable oil( date and cotton))

Contains: Milk, Wheat, Pistachio

Preheat oven to 430 °F. Take the Kunafeh out of its plastic bag. No need to wait to unfreeze. Place it on an oven safe tray. Cook it up to 10 minutes or until golden brown. It can also be cooked on an oven top by placing on a non-stick pan and turning over until both sides are golden brown.

Put 1 cup of water and 1.25 of white cane sugar into a pot. Stir it occasionally. Boil it for 5 minutes and let it cool down close to room temperature. It is better to prepare the syrup before baking the Kataifi.
Once the Kunafeh baked to golden brown color, while it is still hot, put the desired amount of syrup and serve it hot. It can be topped and served with whipped cream or ice cream. For even better taste, sprinkle some ground pistachios on it.
